How GoSL Transport collects, uses, shares, stores and protects personal information, including location and trip history.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, password (stored only as a secure hash), and profile photo if you upload one.
- Booking information: origin and destination, travel date and time, operator, vehicle, seat number, fare, booking number, payment status and boarding status.
- Operator and driver information: company name, registration and licence details, insurance documents, vehicle plate and model, and driver licence photographs submitted for verification.
- Location information: for a driver on an active trip, the vehicle's GPS position while the trip is running, so passengers can follow the bus.
- Technical information: device type, browser, approximate region derived from your connection, app version, and error reports.
- Communications: messages you send us, complaints, incident reports, ratings and reviews.
2. Why we use it
- To create and secure your account and to authenticate you.
- To take a reservation, generate a ticket and QR code, and let terminal staff verify and mark payment and boarding.
- To let an operator produce an accurate passenger manifest for a departure — a legal and safety requirement for road transport.
- To show live vehicle progress to passengers booked on that departure.
- To send booking confirmations, reminders, disruption notices and account emails.
- To verify operators, vehicles and drivers before they carry passengers.
- To detect and prevent fraud, seat hoarding, false bookings and abuse.
- To produce revenue, maintenance and performance reports for operators and administrators.
3. Location and GPS
Driver location is collected only while a trip is active and only from the driver's device with the driver's consent. It is used to show the vehicle's progress to passengers on that trip and to support incident investigation. It stops when the trip is marked arrived.
We do not track passengers' devices in the background. Pickup and destination points are the terminals you select when booking, not your personal address.
4. Who we share it with
- The operator you booked with — the passenger name, phone number, seat and payment status needed to carry you.
- Terminal staff at the relevant terminal — only to verify your ticket and record payment and boarding.
- Our infrastructure providers — hosting, database, email delivery and, in future, payment processing — who act on our instructions.
- Law enforcement, a regulator or a court where we are legally required to disclose, or where disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share your contact details with other passengers. Operator contact details on public pages are limited to what an operator has agreed to publish.
5. How long we keep it
- Booking and manifest records: retained for accounting, safety and dispute purposes, normally seven years.
- Trip location traces: retained for a short operational period and then aggregated or deleted.
- Driver licence and operator documents: retained while the licence is active and for a period afterwards as required for verification records.
- Account records: deleted or anonymised on request, except where we must keep a booking or financial record by law.
6. Security
Access to data is controlled by role. An operator can see only its own bookings, vehicles, drivers and staff. Passwords must meet a strength standard and are checked against known breached-password lists. Documents such as driver licences are stored privately and opened only through short-lived signed links for an authorised reviewer. Administrative actions such as approvals, payment marking and cancellations are written to an audit log.
7. Your rights
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is wrong — most details can be edited in your profile.
- Ask us to delete your account and information we are not required to keep.
- Object to a use of your information or withdraw a consent you previously gave.
- Complain to us, and to the relevant data protection or consumer authority in Sierra Leone.
To exercise any right, write to gosltransportation@gmail.com. We respond within 30 days.
8. Children
The platform is not intended for children to use independently. We do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 18. A child travelling is recorded on an adult's booking.
